Rajinee Pier – Gateway between the Old City and the River

Rajinee Pier Bangkok connects Sanam Chai MRT Station with the Chao Phraya River, providing one of the most convenient transfer points between Bangkok’s underground network and its water transport routes.

A Well Located Pier Beside the Old City Moat

Rajinee Pier lies a short walk from Sanam Chai MRT Station, providing one of the most direct links between Bangkok’s rail network and the Chao Phraya River. The pier also sits close to the Flower Market and offers a convenient starting point for walking beside the old city moat toward nearby historic temples and government buildings.

Exploring Nearby Temples and Landmarks

From Rajinee Pier, the route beside the canal leads toward several sites linked with Bangkok’s royal and administrative history. The first is Wat Ratchapradit, commissioned by King Rama IV and completed in 1864. Wat Ratchabophit includes a royal cemetery that holds the ashes of King Rama X’s paternal grandparents. Continuing along the same path brings you to Sanam Luang and the Supreme Court, both near the Grand Palace.

Canal Tours and Local Connections

Beside the pier entrance, visitors can book small-boat canal tours at a simple table beneath a large umbrella. The boats travel through Bangkok’s khlongs and can drop passengers at Wat Arun on request or by prior arrangement. A nearby footbridge connects directly to the Flower Market, a lively district that extends toward the Memorial Bridge. The same footbridge also provides access to Atsadang Pier, where ferries cross to the opposite bank. For general visitor information, including sightseeing advice and travel updates, see the Tourism Authority of Thailand website.

Exploring Across the River

After taking the ferry from Atsadang Pier, the riverside walkway between Wat Kalayanamit and the Memorial Bridge passes several sites that reflect Bangkok’s cultural mix. These include a small Chinese shrine, the Santa Cruz Church—established by Portuguese settlers in the late 1760s—and Wat Prayun, and Wat Prayun, where a pond with resident turtles offers a quiet contrast to the surrounding city. Continue to the nearby Chao Phraya Sky Park, which offers an elevated route across the river with broad views of the city skyline. From there, you can catch a boat at Memorial Bridge Pier or walk back through the Flower Market to Rajinee Pier and Sanam Chai Station.
